Reflecting our ongoing commitment to Japan and tremendous growth in the region, we commenced conducting our securities business as a Japanese company (kabushiki gaisha) in 2006. This was followed by a reorganization of our Japan operations under a holding company in 2007, which was implemented to strengthen our ability to support clients and provide oversight to diverse range of businesses.
Most recently in Japan, Morgan Stanley and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group commenced securities joint venture operations in Japan under a two-company structure as part of their global strategic alliance. Leveraging their respective strengths and networks, the establishment of two new securities companies will bring further growth opportunities to Morgan Stanley.
Today, with more than 1,300 employees, we are one of the largest and most active foreign participants in the Japanese market.
